How to Set Up a Facebook Pixel on Your Website

Marketing

Did you know that you can send people ads if they’ve visited your website? It’s true. It’s all done through the power of remarketing.

To do this, you need to install Facebook Pixel. It’s also known as the Meta Pixel.

The pixel is a little bit of code that Facebook gives you that you can put on your website.

It’s like a beetle hiding in the corner of your room. It can’t be seen by customers, but it can see them.

The pixel knows when customers have taken certain actions on your website, like visiting a particular page. You can target customers that take particular actions.

It can get a little complicated, and following the steps that Facebook gives you is the best way to follow the process. Here’s how to work through the process.

Step 1: Go to events manager in Facebook

To start the set-up process:

  • Head to Events Manager in Facebook
  • In the left bar, click the plus sign that says ‘Connect Data Sources’
  • Select ‘Web’ and click ‘Connect’

Step 2: Set up your pixel in Pixel

Here we create the pixel to go on your site:

  • Name your pixel e.g. Jim’s Plumbing Pixel
  • Click ‘Create Pixel’
  • Enter your domain name and click ‘Next’
  • Select Meta Pixel and click ‘Next’

Step 3: Get a copy of your pixel from Facebook

Now you need to get a copy of your pixel code to put on your website:

  • Click ‘Continue Pixel Setup’
  • Click ‘Install Code Manually’
  • Click ‘Copy Code’

Step 4: Install the pixel on your website

In this step, we move away from Facebook to your website to set-up the pixel. This guide gives instructions for Weebly, but most content management systems are similar:

  • In a new tab: Open up Weebly, select ‘Settings’ at the top, and select ‘SEO’
  • In the Header Code section, paste the code you got from Facebook
  • Hit ‘Save’ and then ‘Publish’

Step 5: Finish installing the pixel on your website

Now we move back to Facebook to finish the process.

  • Return to where you were on Facebook
  • Click ‘Continue’, select to turn on ‘Automatic Matching’, and select ‘Continue’
  • Skip the events set up and select ‘Go To Pixel Tool’

Step 6: Test if your pixel is installed correctly

In this final step, we test whether the installation was successful.

  • Go to your website and view the homepage
  • Return to Facebook and click on ‘Test Events’
  • You should see that you are receiving activity from your website

You can also download the Facebook Pixel Helper in Chrome. You can use this to test whether your pixel is active.

Once your pixel code is set up, you can use the audience from that pixel to start retargeting your ads.
