In the height of January in South Australia, where the scorching heat dances with the dust, is the Tour Down Under.
Tour Down Under is Australia’s biggest bike event and serves as an early-season test for many professional cyclists.
It offers the chance for them to gauge their form and prepare for the upcoming rides ahead.
But it’s also a huge marketing opportunity.
For two weeks, you can hear the hum of the rubber as thousands of riders make their way around Adelaide before heading out again for more distant courses.
These courses traverse the landscapes of the Adelaide Hills and Barossa Valley which drape a stunning backdrop for the competition.
And where there’s competition and stunning locations, there’s bound to be photographers. Many of these lay in wait along the track.
But those with a professional media interest take the the sky.
Happy snappers in helicopters hover for aerial views of the peloton, the landscape, and the progress of the race. You’ll see these shots used in live broadcasts and highlight reels.
When they get to McLaren Vale Wine Region, they see this:

It’s big.
It’s bold.
It can be seen from miles away.
This is a fantastic showcase of South Australian ingenuity, and a sneaky plug for our great state and its regions on the international stage.
Now get back to the race!
